The University of Findlay will celebrate the 125th anniversary of its founding beginning with a Founding Day celebration Feb. 8 and concluding with Homecoming in October. All events will be based on the theme, “Celebrating the Past, Embracing the Future.”
The Founding Day celebration will begin with a processional of UF faculty and staff in full academic regalia. The convocation that follows will include speakers Dr. C. Richard Beckett, chairman of the board of trustees, and Dr. Edwin L. Heminger, trustee emeritus. Dr. James Houdeshell, special assistant to the president and chairman of the 125th steering committee, will present an anniversary memento.
Following a recessional and dinner, Jack M. Taylor, director of bands and professor of music, will direct The University of Findlay Symphonic Band in a performance of “The Odyssey, Symphony No. 2” by Robert W. Smith. The four-part symphony recreates the sounds of a thunderstorm, sword-fight, fire and much more while presenting the musical adventure of Odysseus and his travels.
Many other activities will take place throughout the year both in the community and on campus. A complete list of events can be found

The Hancock County Historical Museum is planning a year-long exhibit with five large display cases in the community room. Three separate UF-related exhibits will be rotated throughout the year.
Dr. Marie Louden-Hanes, dean of undergraduate education, and Dr. Luke Bartolomeo, professor of chemistry, are serving as vice chairs of the 125th steering committee.
