Living History Celebrates UF’s 125th Anniversary
Tuesday, February 06, 2007

 John Latchaw
The first president of Findlay
College, John Latchaw,
served from 1884-1893.

The Churches of God denomination, College First Church of God and Winebrenner Seminary will present a living history titled “An Interview with John Latchaw: First President of Findlay College” in recognition of The University of Findlay’s 125th anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, in Ritz Auditorium, located on the second floor of Old Main.

Findlay’s history will come alive as Rev. John Latchaw, the first president of Findlay College, is interviewed by a reporter. Robert Guy, Ph.D., of Ellwood City, Pa., who currently serves as pastor of Barkeyville Church of God, will portray Latchaw. The reporter will be portrayed by Dale Brougher, Ph.D., associate professor of religion at the University.

Latchaw’s presidency ran from 1884-1893, during which time he was challenged to raise the remaining funds needed to complete the building of Old Main and open Findlay College for classes in 1886. Latchaw’s optimism for the college was evident in his leadership, and he greatly influenced the growth of the college.

In addition to the living history, the program also will include special music by soloist David Welker, pastor of College First Church of God, and pianist Anna Welker.
