Student Forum on Diversity Features Eight Student Perspectives
Thursday, March 15, 2007

The University of Findlay will host a student forum on diversity from 3:30-5 p.m. Thursday, March 22, in the Grimm Theatre, located in the Egner Center for Performing Arts. A panel of eight students from the Colleges of Liberal Arts, Science, Education and Business will share how diversity has affected their learning experiences at UF and how they feel it has affected society.

Students speaking will be senior Elizabeth Seward, junior Elise DeCola, senior Michael Shaffer, sophomore Laura Maurer, sophomore Katie Kerzisnik, junior Devin Pritts, junior Bob Sturwold and senior Kim Haddix.

Panel members will shape their remarks based on the definition of diversity as “differences found within the U.S. related to such factors as race, religion, language, culture, gender, sexual preference, disabilities and exceptionalities.” A question-and-answer session will follow the presentations. The forum is free of charge and open to anyone to attend.

Faculty members serving as mentors for the students include John Malacos, Ph.D., associate professor of psychology; Diane Kontar, Ph.D., director of art and assistant professor of art history; Scott Freehafer, Ph.D., assistant professor of business; Michael Reed, Ph.D., College of Liberal Arts chair and professor of TESOL and bilingual education; Gary Johnson, Ph.D., associate professor of English; Connie Leatherman, director of field experience for the College of Education; Bill Carter, Ph.D., associate professor of environmental management and director or graduate and undergraduate degree completion in ESOH; and Jon Gordon, Ph.D., director of communication and associate professor of intercultural communication.
