The University of Findlay will host a panel discussion featuring Catherine Ryan Hyde, the author of the 2007 Community Read featured book “Pay It Forward,” from 3-4 p.m. Friday, March 9, in the Pfeiffer Lecture Hall, located in the Virginia B. Gardner Fine Arts Pavilion.
The panel will discuss ethical issues raised in “Pay It Forward.” UF faculty involved in the panel will include Marie Louden-Hanes, Ph.D., dean of undergraduate education, Gwynne Rife, Ph.D., associate professor of biology, Lansford Holness, assistant professor of graphic design, and Mark Olthouse, social worker for Hancock County Department of Job and Family Services.
“Pay it Forward” tells the story of a young boy, Trevor McKinney, challenged by his teacher to create a plan that could change the world for the better and put it into action. Trevor rises to this challenge and does just that. As he sets out to do his good deeds, he is confronted with disappointment and excitement along the journey, teaching everyone life lessons we could all learn from. This inspirational story shows how “child-like faith” can make an ordinary person extraordinary.
Hyde is an award-winning author who has published more than 40 stories. She serves on the administrative staff at the Santa Barbara Writer’s Conference, as well as on the fiction fellowship panel of the Arizona Commission on the Arts and on the editorial staff of the Santa Barbara Review.
