UF to Host Movie for Vietnam on Campus Series
Thursday, April 05, 2007
The University of Findlay will host the third movie and discussion of the Vietnam on Campus Series from 6:30-9 p.m. Thursday, April 12, in the Martin Lecture Hall, located in the William B. Brewer Science Hall.
The featured film will be “Gardien de Buffles” with Dr. Tran Le Hoa Tranh facilitating a discussion afterwards.
The movie is based on a collection of short stories by a Vietnam native. The story is that of a young boy who is charged with taking his family’s two buffalo away from the flooding lands. He must get the buffalo to their destination safely because his family is relying on him. It tells the story of a boy learning about the adult world through violence, friendship, love and eventually the joy of freedom.
Tran is a scholar-in-residence from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities – Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), an affiliated member of the Vietnam National University. She holds bachelor’s degrees in English and literature, a master’s degree in Vietnamese literature and her doctoral degree in the theory of history and literature.
