Friday, April 20, 2007

The Mazza Museum of International Art from Picture Books will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a party featuring author Gail Gibbons at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 29, in the Mazza Museum located in the Virginia B. Gardner Fine Arts Pavilion.

Following Gibbons’ talk, there will be a book and gift sale, and she will autograph. A party with decorations, cake and ice cream also will be held.

Tickets for the event are $5. They are available by contacting the Mazza Museum at 419-434-5521 or mccrory@findlay.edu.

Gibbons is a leading children’s non-fiction author in America and has had more than 100 books published. Her books are richly illustrated and teach children a wide range of real-world topics. Her most recent books include: “Galaxies, Galaxies!” “Ice Cream,” “Horses” and “Valentine’s Day Is . . .” among others. She also has won the prestigious Washington Post Children’s Book Guild Award for overall contribution to children’s non-fiction books.

Gibbons was born in Oak Park, Ill., in 1944. She attended the University of Illinois, where she studied graphic design. Her first job was in New York City designing artwork for television shows, and she was eventually asked to do the artwork for a children’s show. While doing the show, children asked her if she had ever thought of writing children’s books. She then wrote her first book, “Willy and His Wheel Wagon,” and has been writing and illustrating children’s books ever since.
