Tribute Honors Service Men and Women
Friday, May 25, 2007

The University of Findlay honored veterans and those currently serving our country during a Tribute to Memorial Day at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, on the front lawn of Old Main near the flagpole. The tribute was sponsored by UF organizations and offices including the Student Veteran Association (SVA), Campus Ministries, campus security and the Office of Student Activities and Commuter Student Services, as well as by Clear Channel Radio.

student, read the Soldier's Prayer.

The Findlay Civic Band welcomed community members with patriotic music, and the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Honor Guard performed the posting of colors. Retired Cpl. Geoffrey Schultz, a recent UF graduate, welcomed guests and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Sharinda Welton-Peeler, director of student activities and commuter student services, sang the “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Will Miller, director of Christian ministry, offered an invocation, followed by “God Bless America” by the Findlay Civic Band.

Captain Vaughn Warren from the United States Army Recruiting Battalion, Columbus, Ohio, led newly enlisted service men and women from the area through the Oath of Enlistment. Sgt. Luke Olney, current UF student, read the Soldier’s Prayer following the oath.

 21-gun salute
The Hancock County Memorial
Squad presented the 21-gun
salute.

The program also included a Final Roll Call, in which retired U.S. Army soldier John Malacos, Ph.D., and retired Sgt. Howard Rader, campus security officer, read the names of Hancock County’s fallen heroes. A 21-gun salute, by the Hancock County Memorial Squad, and taps, played by Casey Lauger, UF student and daughter of a soldier, concluded the program.

Military vehicles from the Neff’s War Memorial Museum were parked in the driveway on each side of the program area.
