University Community Mourns Loss of Longtime Professor

James Greenwood, associate professor of communication, died at his home May 29.

Jim Greenwood, 60, associate professor of communication at The University of Findlay, died at his home May 29.
He had been a professor at the University since 1981, and had served as chair of the Division of Fine Arts, a position he held for 12 years, and had taught courses in public speaking, broadcasting and debate.
Professor Greenwood had served as adviser to the campus radio station, WLFC-FM, for more than a decade, and was currently serving as adviser to Lambda Pi Eta, the communication honorary society. He also served as parliamentarian for the Faculty Senate, Graduate Council and the University’s College of Liberal Arts.
He had authored or co-authored several articles in scholarly journals, including “Protest Against Racism” in Rhetoric of the People, and “The Legal Setting of Attic Oratory” in the Central States Speech Journal.
He is survived by his parents, two brothers and two sisters, as well as a nephew and a niece.
His interests included teaching communication and rhetoric, reading, vegetable and fruit gardening, old-time radio, cribbage tournaments with family and friends, and rock and roll music.
Visitation was held June 6 at St. Raphael Church in Naperville, Ill. A Mass of Christian Burial followed. Memorials may be made to:

A memorial service will be held on campus after classes resume for the fall semester, with details to be announced at a later date.
