Alumni Board of Governors Plans Ice Cream Social July 1
Wednesday, June 27, 2007

The University of Findlay’s Alumni Board of Governors will host an ice cream social for alumni and their families at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 1, prior to the Alumni Band Concert at the Riverside Park Allen P. Dudley Band Shell.

Nearly 50 current and former members of The University of Findlay and Findlay College concert band, symphonic band and wind ensemble will participate in the concert.

Directed by Jack Taylor, professor of music and director of bands, the special concert is part of the University’s 125th anniversary celebration. It also is the first alumni band concert in more than 20 years. Chris Oakes, WFIN radio DJ, will serve as emcee for the program, which is free and open to the public.

The group will perform some marches, the Fight Song, written by former band director Louis Chenette, and the Alma Mater, written by former band director “Doc” John Van Nice. Other selections include the “American Civil War Fantasy,” music from “Phantom of the Opera,” the “Russian Sailors’ Dance” from the “Red Poppy” by Gliere and music of Leroy Anderson and John Philip Sousa.
