“Cheaper by the Dozen” is the original play that became the movie that became the movie revival starring Steve Martin. The story follows an attractive high school girl, Anne, who is a member of a large and unique family and whose father, Frank Gilbreth, is one of the great pioneers of industrial efficiency. When he decides, for no apparent reason, to apply his unorthodox methods to his big family, the results are terribly embarrassing, funny and — it must be admitted — extremely effective.
The cast will include the SummerStock core professional company members: Rachel Brinker as Miss Brill, Doug Cordes as Joe Scales, James Holden as Larry, Aaron Keller as Frank and Emma Lorraine Giffen as Mrs. Gilbreth. Also on stage will be Mark Tomesek, a professional Los Angeles-based actor originally from Toledo, Ohio, as Mr. Gilbreth.
Laura Ristau, an intern from Western Illinois University, will portray Anne, and Kara Wilkinson, a current student at The University of Findlay, will portray Ernestine. Melissa Waaland and Mary Linehan, both high school apprentices, will portray Lillian and Martha. Several members of the SummerStock Youth Conservatory will be selected to join the cast, as well.
“Into the Woods” will end the SummerStock 2007 season, opening July 25.
