Schwaner came to UF from North Georgia College & State University (NGCSU), where he most recently held the Harry B. Forrester Endowed Chair and was professor and head of the department of biology. Schwaner joined the faculty of NGCSU in 2002 and assumed both positions in 2004. Previously, he was a member of the faculty at Southern Utah University, a high school biology teacher, museum curator and research biologist for the USAF, during which he held several research posts with field experiences in more than 10 countries including Tasmania, Australia, Panama, Iran and the Philippines. Schwaner holds a bachelor of science in zoology from Southeastern Louisiana University, Hammond, La., and a master of science degree in zoology and botany from Auburn University, Ala.
