Animal Therapy Presentation Planned for Sept. 25
Sunday, September 23, 2007

The University of Findlay will host “Changing Directions, Pet Paws and Lucky Riders: How Animal Therapy Can Make a Difference” from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, in the Davis Street Building (formerly Owens Community College – Findlay campus), Room 102.

Kelly Garza and Deb DeHoff of Serenity Farms in Luckey, Ohio, will present the program. Special guests will be Walter and his person along with two of his therapy-dog colleagues.

Pet Paws is Serenity Farms’ small animal visitation program, which offers on-site visits with a group of trained volunteers and pets. The group offers weekly visits to clients and students, providing sensory integration, unconditional love and learning opportunities. Groups also may take field trips to the farm.

Lucky Riders is a therapeutic horseback-riding program to benefit those with physical and cognitive challenges, autism and cerebral palsy, learning delays and speech and hearing difficulties.

Sponsored by the College of Sciences, the program is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Gwynne Rife, Ph.D., professor of biology and faculty chair of the College of Sciences, at rife@findlay.edu or 419-434-4724.
