Theatre Program to host its 32nd Annual High School Workshop
Friday, October 05, 2007

The theatre program at The University of Findlay will hold its 32nd annual high school workshop on Saturday, Nov. 3. The workshop is open to high school students from Ohio and will feature multiple student workshops as well as performances of the University’s upcoming productions of Tennessee Williams’ “A Streetcar Named Desire” and Neil Simon’s “Brighton Beach Memoirs.”

Registration for the high school workshop is due by mail by Oct. 15 or by phone call or fax by Oct. 17. The registration fee is $2 either at the time of registration or upon arrival at The University of Findlay. Students may eat lunch in Henderson Cafeteria for an additional $6.

To register by phone, contact Peggy Gartner at 419-434-4531.

The workshops can accommodate 200 students on a first-come, first-served basis. No refunds or cancellations will be made after Oct. 29, 2007.

Students may choose to attend three of five workshops offered:

• “Stage Combat—Unarmed ‘Dirty’ Fighting” will be led by program director Scott Hayes and will demonstrate the stage combat techniques featured in “A Streetcar Named Desire.”

• “Repertory!—Designing for Two” will be taught by technical professor Jerry Deall and will show students how two shows were staged using one set.

• “The Actor’s Nightmare—The Understudy Experience” will be led by director Vicki McClurkin and will discuss how to be an effective understudy.

• “Move it In, Move it Out!” will be led by technical director Matt Stimmel and will walk students through the process of budgeting for, building and changing over two sets.

• “It’s All In the Details!” will be taught by costume designer Kathy Newell and will explain the costuming of the two shows.

A special teachers-only luncheon will be held this year as well. The meal will include two simultaneous symposiums, led by theatre program faculty, one regarding technical theatre and one regarding acting and directing.
