The
Mazza Museum of International Art from Picture Books will host five recent American Library Association award winners at its
Mazza Summer Institute, July 14-18.
The award winners were announced earlier this month and include the following Mazza Summer Institute speakers:
• Brian Selznick, Randolph Caldecott Medal for the most distinguished American picture book for children,
“The Invention of Hugo Cabret”•
Kadir Nelson, Caldecott Honor, “Henry’s Freedom Box: A True Story from the Underground Railroad”

Laura Vaccaro Seeger, Caldecott Honor, “First the Egg,” which also received the Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor
•
Yuyi Morales, Pura Belpre Award, honoring Latino authors and illustrators who work best portrays, affirms and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in children’s books, “Los Gatos Black on Halloween”
•
Brian Floca, Robert F. Sibert Honor Medal for most distinguished informational books for children, “Lightship”
The Mazza Summer Institute is a weeklong conference, which may be taken for enjoyment or college credit. There will be several national and international keynote presenters during the week, including the award-winning illustrators mentioned above. Participants also will enjoy practical and hands-on small group sessions.
