Mazza Museum to Host Five Award-Winning Illustrators

The Mazza Museum of International Art from Picture Books will host five recent American Library Association award winners at its Mazza Summer Institute, July 14-18.

The award winners were announced earlier this month and include the following Mazza Summer Institute speakers:

• Brian Selznick, Randolph Caldecott Medal for the most distinguished American picture book for children, “The Invention of Hugo Cabret”

Kadir Nelson, Caldecott Honor, “Henry’s Freedom Box: A True Story from the Underground Railroad”

Laura Vaccaro Seeger, Caldecott Honor, “First the Egg,” which also received the Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor

Yuyi Morales, Pura Belpre Award, honoring Latino authors and illustrators who work best portrays, affirms and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in children’s books, “Los Gatos Black on Halloween”

Brian Floca, Robert F. Sibert Honor Medal for most distinguished informational books for children, “Lightship”

The Mazza Summer Institute is a weeklong conference, which may be taken for enjoyment or college credit. There will be several national and international keynote presenters during the week, including the award-winning illustrators mentioned above. Participants also will enjoy practical and hands-on small group sessions.
