Salute to Our Troops, an event sponsored by The University of Findlay’s Office of
Residence Life, will take place from 8–10 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, in the Alumni Memorial Union (AMU).
It will offer students at the University an opportunity to show their support for the men and women who serve our country. Students will put together care packages, write letters and sign cards to be mailed to currently deployed soldiers.
Donations are being accepted, and collection boxes are available in the dormitories, the AMU and the Student Services office. Suggested items to donate include sunblock, lip balm, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shaving cream, lotion, soap, DVDs, beef jerky, candy and energy bars. Positive newspaper clippings about current events in the United States also will be included in the care packages.
Any student is encouraged to submit the name and address of a friend or family member currently in service, and a care package will be sent to that person.
On the day of the event, students are asked to wear red, white and blue to display appreciation for all those who choose to serve our country. Students also will be given a yellow ribbon (while supplies last) that symbolizes support of the troops.
