Kym Fisher, photographer and graphic designer
|
Black and white photographs by Kym Fisher are on display in The University of Findlay’s 1124 Gallery, located at 1124 N. Cory St., from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday through March 14. The title of the show is “Shift,” because the artist’s photographs show the process of change.
Fisher used a 35mm SLR Canon AE-1 from the early 1970s to create the photographs in the show. According to Fisher, a majority of the subjects are old buildings that “I stumble upon while driving.” She often takes her equipment on trips through industrial sections of large cities or country roads to find empty factories or an abandoned farmhouse.
In addition to the photographs in the 1124 Gallery, Fisher has graphic design pieces on display in the Old Main Gallery, located on the second floor of Old Main in a glass case. Pieces on display include logo designs, Web site design and a variety of marketing and promotion items.
Fisher graduated from Findlay High School in 1999 and after spending two years at the University of Cincinnati studying marketing and fine arts, she returned to Findlay to be closer to family and enrolled at The University of Findlay with a major in graphic communication.
In 2004, Fisher started a freelance graphic design business, Oblique Creations, which expanded through local clientele. In 2006, she moved to Columbus where she joined Yoga on High as marketing and retail coordinator and Weber Associates as lead designer for Sprint’s print collateral branding updates.
Fisher is expanding Oblique Creations and is preparing for a gallery show in Columbus in April.
The 1124 Gallery opened for the first time in October 2005. Featured artists have included UF faculty, staff and alumni, as well as community artists. Exhibits such as paintings, weavings and photographs have been a few of the mediums displayed.
