Occupational Therapy Leader on Campus

The University of Findlay’s occupational therapy program will hold its fourth annual Evening with a Leader in Occupational Therapy Thursday, Feb. 28, and Friday, Feb. 29. This continuing education program is free to those who attend.

The event will feature keynote speaker Florence Clark, Ph.D., OTR/L, FAOTA, past recipient of the Eleanor Clarke Slagle Lectureship and charter member of the Academy of Research of the American Occupational Therapy Association.

Serving as a national and international spokesman, Clark will present “The Centennial Vision: What Does it Mean for Practice?” from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Feb. 28 in the Ritz Auditorium of Old Main and “The Centennial Vision and My Research” from 9:15-11:15 a.m. Feb. 29 in the Alumni Memorial Union.

Clark is a widely published and noted scholar. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English and drama at SUNY Albany, her master’s degree in occupational therapy from SUNY Buffalo and her doctoral degree in education from the University of Southern California. She also was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Indianapolis.

Her research interests include the development and dysfunction of sensory integration in children; maternal role behavior; the acquisition of independent living skills among adolescents with disabilities; health promotion in the elderly and spinal cord injury and occupational science. She has served as special consultant to the U.S. Army Surgeon General, and has been on the board of the National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research. In 1999, the American Occupational Therapy Association honored her with its Award of Merit, and in 2001 she received a lifetime achievement award from the Occupational Therapy Association of California.
