Youngest Mayor of Bellefontaine to Speak at Symposium
Wednesday, April 09, 2008

Adam BrannonThe University of Findlay’s College of Liberal Arts welcomes Adam Brannon, mayor of Bellefontaine, Ohio, as a featured speaker during the second annual Symposium for Scholarship and Creativity at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, in the Alumni Memorial Union Multipurpose Room.

Brannon graduated from the University with a degree in political science in May 2007. At age 22, he assumed office Jan. 1, 2008, becoming the youngest mayor of Bellefontaine, Ohio, and one of a handful of mayors in the United States under the age of 25. As the Democratic candidate, Brannon beat an independent and the incumbent Republican mayor in the November 2007 elections.

The young politician campaigned door-to-door, introducing himself to the community, a cost-effective strategy since he had far less money for advertising than his Republican opponent. Brannon started his freshman year at UF thinking he would become a teacher and football coach, but after taking a class in American politics, quickly changed his mind.

The colleges of business, health professions, education and sciences also will host guest speakers during the event.
