The University of Findlay recently elected to name Irma Asencio Hanson, Ph.D.; Fumiko Kamiya Harada, Ph.D.; Dwight Moody, Ed.D.; and David C. Wallach, in memoriam, professors emeriti. Hanson, Harada and Moody retired at the end of the spring 2008 semester. Wallach died in April 2008 and would have retired in May.
Hanson began teaching within the
TESOL program (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at UF as an adjunct professor in 1989. She became a full-time faculty member in 1993. As director of the international center and the TESOL program, Hanson helped the program grow and bring in additional grant funding. Hanson received both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from Inter-American University in San German, Puerto Rico. She received a doctoral degree from Georgetown University.
Harada joined the University in 1989 as an assistant professor of
Japanese. In 1996, Harada became special assistant to the president and worked to further establish, maintain and strengthen ties with the Japanese community in Findlay and with Japanese colleges and universities. Harada earned a bachelor’s degree from the International Christian University in Tokyo, Japan, and both a master’s and doctoral degree from The Ohio State University.
Moody started teaching
biology at UF in 1975. He involved his students in research projects, and he earned numerous awards for teaching and service. Moody served as an adviser to the Wilderness Club, and he was instrumental in establishing the Nature Center. Recently, Moody also was instrumental in promoting the acquisition of the Rieck Center for Habitat Studies, a 46-acre living laboratory used for student instruction. Moody has both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from Chardon State College and a doctoral degree from the University of Toledo.
Wallach taught at the University since 1984. He served as division chair for
mathematics and
computer science and as department chair of mathematics. He was the faculty athletic representative to both the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and the National Collegiate Athletics Association. Wallach received a bachelor’s degree from Wright State University and a master’s degree from Rutgers University.
