 Frog and Toad
“Frog” and “Toad” from “A Year with Frog and Toad,”
which opens July 16.

The University of Findlay’s SummerStock cast and crew opened its season with “Hank Williams: Lost Highway” June 25. “A Year with Frog and Toad” and “Tuesdays with Morrie” are the two remaining shows this season.

The season-opener was the musical biography of Williams, the legendary singer-songwriter named as one of the great innovators of American popular music. The play followed Williams’ rise from his beginnings on the Louisiana Hayride to his triumphs on the Grand Ole Opry to his eventual self-destruction at age 29.

“A Year with Frog and Toad” is based on the books by Arnold Lobel, with show book and lyrics by Willie Reale and music by Robert Reale. Show times are at 8 p.m. July 16-19; 2 p.m. July 19 and 6 p.m. July 20.

Arnold Lobel’s well-loved characters hop from the page to the stage in this musical. Conceived by Lobel’s daughter, Adrianne Lobel, “A Year with Frog and Toad” remains true to the spirit of the original stories as it follows two great friends, the cheerful and popular Frog and the rather grumpy Toad, through four fun-filled seasons. Its clever book and lyrics and snazzy music can serve as a great introduction to theatre for youngsters, while keeping adults entertained as well.

“Tuesdays with Morrie,” by Jeffrey Hatcher and Mitch Albom, is based on the book by Mitch Albom. The show will close the SummerStock season at 8 p.m. July 23-26; 2 p.m. July 26 and 6 p.m. July 27.

“Tuesdays with Morrie” is the autobiographical story of Mitch Albom, an accomplished journalist driven solely by his career, and Morrie Schwartz, Albom’s former college professor. Sixteen years after graduation, Mitch happens to catch Morrie’s appearance on a television news program and learns that his old professor is battling Lou Gehrig’s disease. Mitch is reunited with Morrie, and what starts as a simple visit turns into a weekly pilgrimage and a last class in the meaning of life.
