Student Employees Number 125 This Summer
Wednesday, July 09, 2008

This summer, there are approximately 125 student employees working on campus, helping to keep the campus looking great and offices running smoothly. Two such students are Nicole Lahey, nuclear medicine major, and Ben Porter, education major, who are working for physical plant this summer.

heavy rain.
Nicole Lahey, a nuclear medicine major from Findlay, will start her freshman year this fall. As a student employee, she cleans air conditioner coils, changes filters in air conditioners and chillers and works wherever else she may be needed.

“I like getting to know my way around campus and meeting students who are working with me who also will attend UF in the fall,” she said.

Lahey also enjoys working on campus because her mother, Cindy Lahey, also works at UF in the Office of Development.

Ben Porter, an intervention specialist education major from Tiffin, Ohio, works for the physical plant, setting up tents and helping with office moves.

“I’ve made new friends and learned new skills,” said Porter. “I’ve also enjoyed Jeff Lewis’ daily jokes.”

Porter identified Susan Brooks, assistant professor in the College of Education, as an influential person in his academic career. “Professor Brooks has really helped me in my career path by pushing me in all facets of my education,” he said.

Fall Student Employment
Fall student employment openings will begin to post Aug. 1. Students may submit an online application and begin to apply online for fall positions on Aug. 1.

Students will find an online application and the job listings on the C.A.$.H. Network, which can be accessed by logging into “my findlay” and then choosing the UF Intranet tab.

Students will need to follow up with completing paperwork once they arrive on campus. Freshmen will have the opportunity to complete paperwork in the AMU during orientation weekend, and all students will have the opportunity during the first two days of classes, Aug. 25 and 26, also in the AMU.

After Aug. 26, students will need to visit the student employment office in the UF Village to begin the paperwork process. All paperwork must be completed before new and returning students begin their campus jobs.
