Edie Scholarship Aids Military Students
Wednesday, August 06, 2008

The University of Findlay recently announced the endowment of the Ralph H. ’42 and Betty B. Edie Scholarship, made possible by the generosity of the couple’s son and daughter, Col. Halson Kent Edie and Barbara DeLong, as part of the University’s 125th anniversary celebration.

Edie and DeLong established the scholarship in honor of their parents and to help full-time students meet their financial obligations of attending college for a four-year degree or completion of graduate studies. The scholarship will be awarded to students with honorable service to the United States military.

The scholarship award is based on financial need, and it is renewable as long as the recipient remains in good academic standing and maintains a GPA of at least 3.0.

The goal of the endowed fund drive is to create 125 new endowed funds for student scholarship, faculty development and program support. As of the launch date, 44 new funds totaling approximately $2 million have been created.

A steering committee consisting of University alumni and friends has been organized to provide leadership during the drive. Members of the steering committee are:

•    A.R. ’66 and Mary Ann Charnes, national co-chairs
•    Dr. Robert Frampton, College of Health Professions
•    Barbara Meyers ’63, College of Education
•    Larry McDougle ’63, College of Sciences
•    Tony Pitts ’85, Athletics
•    Dallas Sterling, School of Pharmacy
•    Jim ’63 and Karis Woodward, College of Liberal Arts
•    Denny Zahler ’70, College of Business
