Mazza Fund to Support Museum and Mallett Institute
Wednesday, September 03, 2008

The University of Findlay recently announced the endowment of the Dr. Jerry J. Mallett Mazza Museum Endowment Fund, made possible by Mr. and Mrs. Michael H. Mallett, as part of the University’s 125th anniversary celebration.

Mr. and Mrs. Mallett established the endowment fund to honor Dr. Mallett for his years of service and dedication to the University. The fund will be used to support operations of the Mazza Museum of International Art from Picture Books. The recently created Dr. Jerry J. Mallett Institute will support existing museum activities.

Dr. Mallett, curator and founding director of the museum, has devoted his life’s work to teaching children to read and promoting an appreciation of language arts, children’s literature and children’s book illustrations. He founded the Mazza Museum in 1982 and served as its director for 25 years before becoming museum curator this year.

The goal of the endowed fund drive is to create 125 new endowed funds for student scholarship, faculty development and program support. As of the launch date, 44 new funds totaling approximately $2 million have been created.

A steering committee consisting of University alumni and friends has been organized to provide leadership during the drive. Members of the steering committee are:

•    A.R. ’66 and Mary Ann Charnes, national co-chairs
•    Dr. Robert Frampton, College of Health Professions
•    Barbara Meyers ’63, College of Education
•    Larry McDougle ’63, College of Sciences
•    Tony Pitts ’85, Athletics
