Palmer Scholarship Rewards Those Who Improve Community
Friday, September 05, 2008

The University of Findlay recently announced the endowment of the Margaret and Paul Palmer Family Scholarship Endowment Fund, made possible by the generosity of the Palmer family, as part of the University’s 125th anniversary celebration.

The fund’s purpose is to help the University remain a quality institution that nurtures dedication to community service, personal growth and strong values, in addition to academic excellence. The scholarship will help the University attract, encourage and retain students who, throughout a lifetime of persistence and hard work, will be among those who improve their communities and exemplify the University’s highest ideals.

Each scholarship recipient will be a student with a strong commitment to strengthen a diverse set of skills, who will work hard to succeed and who will contribute time, energy and leadership to a host of undertakings during his or her college experience.

The goal of the endowed fund drive is to create 125 new endowed funds for student scholarship, faculty development and program support. As of the launch date, 44 new funds totaling approximately $2 million have been created.

A steering committee consisting of University alumni and friends has been organized to provide leadership during the drive. Members of the steering committee are:

•    A.R. ’66 and Mary Ann Charnes, national co-chairs
•    Dr. Robert Frampton, College of Health Professions
•    Barbara Meyers ’63, College of Education
•    Larry McDougle ’63, College of Sciences
•    Tony Pitts ’85, Athletics
•    Dallas Sterling, School of Pharmacy
•    Jim ’63 and Karis Woodward, College of Liberal Arts
•    Denny Zahler ’70, College of Business
