Three New Members Attend Board of Trustees Meeting

Three new members, A.R. Charnes, Judge Robert A. Fry and Dr. Thomas L. Lucas, attended The University of Findlay’s Board of Trustees meeting Oct. 2-3.

Charnes, a 1966 graduate of UF, was vice president of marketing of Getty Petroleum Marketing Inc., a subsidiary of Lukoil Oil Co, prior to his retirement last year. He is a 41-year veteran of the oil industry, beginning his career with Marathon Oil Co. after graduating from The University of Findlay. Charnes joined Getty Petroleum Marketing’s management team in 1988 and retired in February 2008. Charnes and his wife recently relocated to McCormick, S.C.    
Judge of the Findlay Municipal Court Robert A. Fry, J.D., has served in his current position since 2007. Prior to that election, he was the Hancock County prosecutor, chief assistant prosecutor and assistant prosecutor in Findlay. Fry is active within the College First Church of God in Findlay as an elder. He previously served as deacon, chairman of the stewardship and finance commission and as the spiritual campaign leader. Fry has both a J.D. and a B.A. from Ohio Northern University. He resides in Findlay with his wife, Cindy, and they have two sons.
   
Lucas is a partially retired associate pastor with the East Pennsylvania Conference. He previously was interim executive director of the Eastern Regional Conference. Lucas also served as director of recruitment and development at Winebrenner Theological Seminary from 1992-1995. Lucas began his career as a parish pastor in the East Pennsylvania Conference until 1968 when he joined the U.S. Army as a military chaplain. He continued providing ministry resources to the military, assuming more responsibility in several different roles, until 1992.

Lucas holds a D.Min. from Southern Methodist University; an M.B.A. from Syracuse University; an M.S. from Long Island University; a B.D. from Evangelical School of Theology; and a B.A. from Messiah College. Lucas resides in Dillsburg, Pa., with his wife, Judith.

At the board meeting, trustees discussed substantial investments being made in teaching faculty and academic programs. Thirty full-time faculty members have been added in the past four years, and external approvals have been completed for two professional doctoral degree programs: doctor of pharmacy and doctor of physical therapy.

Also discussed was the new animal science facility currently under construction on Route 68 near the western equestrian farm and pre-veterinary center. The budget was balanced for the 2007-08 fiscal year and is projected to be balanced for the current fiscal year.
