The University of Findlay recently announced the endowment of the David C. Wallach Mathematics Scholarship Endowment Fund, established in loving memory of Wallach by his family and friends to honor his commitment to teaching and to UF.
Wallach came to The University of Findlay in 1984 following a 20-year secondary education mathematics teaching career. During his 24-year career at UF, he was a leader in the
area of mathematics. He served as chair of the Division of Mathematics and Computer Science, was the co-originator of Mathematics Day, developed new courses and taught a wide variety of mathematics courses at UF.
Wallach was active professionally with the Mathematical Association of America and its Ohio Section, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics, where he presented at many regional meetings.
He was also proud of the many accomplishments of his advisees, whom he encouraged, mentored and maintained contact with long after graduation. Planning to retire at the end of the 07-08 academic year, Wallach was awarded the designation and honor, in memoriam, of Assistant Professor of Mathematics Emeritus.
This scholarship is awarded to a full-time student majoring in mathematics who has a 3.0 or better GPA.
The goal of the endowed fund drive is to create 125 new endowed funds for student scholarship, faculty development and program support. As of the launch date, 50 new funds totaling approximately $2 million have been created.
A steering committee consisting of University alumni and friends has been organized to provide leadership during the drive. Members of the steering committee are:
