All Invited to Audition for UF Musical, 'Carnival,' Set for Feb. 18-22, 2009
Monday, November 24, 2008
The University of Findlay will hold open auditions for the spring musical, “Carnival,” at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 1-2, at the Egner Center for the Performing Arts, Room 004. The building is located on Frazer Street, behind the Alumni Memorial Union.
Students, faculty, staff and community members are welcome to audition for parts in the cast, which will include approximately 30 parts of varying size for both singers and non-singers. Parts will include a number of “carnival acts:” magicians, unicyclist, trained dog/animal acts, stilt walker, jugglers, fire eater, strongman, aerialist, tumblers, sword swallower, harem girls, contortionists, roustabouts, hawkers, gypsies, wardrobe women and other circus-type characters.
At initial auditions, beginning at 7 p.m. both Dec. 1-2, prospective cast members will be asked to sing a 16-bar cut from any up-tempo song of their choice, not including songs from Carnival; an accompanist will be provided. They will also be assessed on movement.
On Dec. 2, some prospective cast members may be invited for call backs, which may include singing an assigned song from Carnival, additional movement assessment and readings of cuttings from the script, on request.
Rehearsals for the production will begin Jan. 5, 2009 and continue from 7-10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday, with some Saturday rehearsals for principal characters, through the final week of rehearsals. Dr. Micheal F. Anders, professor of music, will serve as music and production director, Vicki McClurkin as stage director, Jerry Deall as scenic and lighting designer and Kristi Wink as choreographer for the production, which will be presented from Feb. 18-22, 2009.
The script is available on reserve in Shafer Library, and recordings may be obtained through Anders.
Those who are interested in non-singing parts or who have questions regarding the production are asked to contact Anders at 419-434-4717.
