OT Students Teach Seniors to Navigate Internet for Medical Information
Monday, March 02, 2009
Students in The University of Findlay’s occupational therapy program will offer an eHe@lthy series of free seminars to help senior citizens learn how to find reliable health information on the Internet.
The three-part series will be 9:30–11 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, 18 and 25 at the Senior Center, 339 E. Melrose Ave, Findlay.
Knowing how to utilize the Internet to find health and medical information can greatly assist seniors in taking an active role in health and wellness. Yet, a Kaiser Family Foundation survey found that nearly 69 percent of Americans age 65 or older have never used the Internet.
Topics for the series include helping seniors to understand their own health conditions and how to become more actively involved in managing their health care. The workshops include hands-on exercises to ensure the participants are comfortable in their abilities to find reliable and useful information.
This program is very hands-on with lots of personalized help. Participants are asked to attend all three sessions. A general typing knowledge is recommended for participation in the course.
Pre-registration is required; to register for this eHe@lthy program, or for more information, contact Jane Ickes of the University’s occupational therapy program, at 419-434-6936, or ickes@findlay.edu.
