UF to Stage ‘California Suite’
Wednesday, April 15, 2009

The University of Findlay will conclude its 2008-2009 theater season with Neil Simon’s humorous “California Suite” in the John and Hester Powell Grimm Theatre, located in the Frank J. Egner Center for the Performing Arts on campus.

Shows run at 8 p.m. April 22-25 and at 2 p.m. April 26. Tickets are $5 for general admission, $3 for students and senior citizens and free for UF students, faculty and staff with a valid UF I.D. Tickets are available from the UF Box Office; call 419-434-5335.

Set in 1977, Simon’s wacky and bittersweet comedy explores the trials and tribulations of five different married couples who separately inhabit the posh Beverly Hills Hotel throughout the year. The couples, hailing from New York, Philadelphia, London and Chicago, each bring their own literal and figurative ‘baggage’ to the vacation suite.

The play humorously considers the ups and downs of maintaining contemporary relationships in an ever-changing society. The result is an evening filled with zany misadventures, witty banter and unquestionable devotion.

Heather Williams, instructor of theater, is director of the show. Jerry Deall, assistant professor of scenic and lighting design, is the lighting and set designer. Kathy Newell, UF’s resident costumer, is costume designer.

The cast includes students Shannon Scott as Hannah, Cody Parsons as Billy, Candace Knorr as Millie, Kevin Subler as Marvin, Melinda Bednarik as Bunny, Samantha Woodman as Diana, Jeremy Springer as Sidney, Kara Wikinson as Beth, Derin Tolu as Mort, Michelle Billen as Gert and Gary Flowers as Stu.

Stage managers are students Kristina Pritchard and Megan Barclay.
