Curtain Raisers Society Honors New Inductees into Wall of Fame
Tuesday, May 19, 2009

The Curtain Raisers Society for the Performing Arts recently held its annual Wall of Fame induction ceremony at The University of Findlay.

George Whitson and Marjorie (Marge) White were honored for their continuing support of the performing arts at The University of Findlay. The Curtain Raisers also recognized graduating UF seniors at the event.

Whitson served on the University’s Board of Trustees from 1992–2008. In 1991, he and his wife, Shirlee, were named Distinguished Associates of the University. In 2004, Whitson was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Business Development from The University of Findlay.

The couple have been longtime supporters of UF SummerStock, Fort Findlay Playhouse and the Findlay Light Opera Co., as well as contributors of special gifts to The University of Findlay’s vocal and instrumental programs. Whitson Enterprises has made substantial gifts to several special performances at UF, including the 2000 and 2007 presentations of Handel’s “Messiah,” as well as the 2002 performance of Mozart’s “Requiem.”

John Whitson accepted the award on behalf of his father, who was out of town.

In addition to supporting SummerStock for many years, White and her husband, Gene, have generously assisted “behind the scenes” with the theater and vocal music programs at The University of Findlay, including purchasing a piano specifically for use in the Gardner Fine Arts Center.

The Whites have funded and assisted with several University of Findlay endowed scholarships in Spanish and music, as well as contributed to the UF production of “REX” in 2002. From 1984 until 2007, White was employed by The University of Findlay as an adjunct assistant professor of piano, and today she maintains contact with many of her former students, including several international students.

Graduating seniors who were recognized include Lisa Ragland, Samuel Reinmann, Prescott Reser, Jennifer Huber, Donny Johns, Jared Diekman, Cari Hahler, Kirt Schnipke, Derin Tolu and Shannon Scott.
