Cathryn Essinger will read from her
recently published book, “What I Know About Innocence,” published by Main
Street Rag Press (2009), at 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, in Winebrenner
Theological Seminary, Room 254. Essinger’s reading is part of The University of
Findlay’s Spring Writers Series.
She
and David Essinger, assistant professor of English at The University of
Findlay, also will discuss the creation of the DVD that accompanies her book. A
reception and book signing will follow.
The reading
and reception are free and open to students, faculty, staff and community
members and sponsored by the
English department, Convocations and the
College of Liberal Arts.
Cathryn
Essinger is the author of three books of poetry: “A Desk In The Elephant
House,” which won the Walt McDonald First Book Award from Texas Tech University
Press; “My Dog Does Not Read Plato,” which was the runner-up in the Main
Street Rag book competition in 2004; and “What I Know About Innocence,” which was published in the fall, also
by Main Street Rag Press.
Essinger’s
poems have been anthologized in “The Poetry Anthology: 1912-2002,” “Poetry
Daily: 366 Poems” and “O Taste and See: Food Poems.” Her work has been featured on Garrison Keillor’s “Writer’s
Almanac.” She received an Ohio Arts Council grant and was Ohio’s Poet of the
Year in 2005.
Essinger is
a professor of English at Edison Community College in Piqua, Ohio.
