Walter Wick Speaking Monday morning, July 15
Walter Wick's first interest in art began with drawing and painting in high school. His brother, Robert, had also introduced him to photography around this time. After graduating college, Walter moved to New York City where he opened his own studio. One of his books debuted on the New York Times bestseller list in 2002. Some of his books include I Spy: A Book of Picture Riddles, A Drop of Water: a Book of Science and Wonder and Walter Wick's Optical Tricks.
Jon Klassen Speaking Monday afternoon, July 15
Jon Klassen, originally from Niagara Falls, Ontario, has worked as an illustrator for featured animated films, music videos, and editorial pieces. He received Canada's prestigious Governor General's Award for the illustrations in his picture book Cats' Night Out and is the author-illustrator of I Want My Hat Back.
James Dean Speaking Tuesday morning, July 16
James Dean began his career as an Electrical Engineer. He painted and sketched in the mornings before work. He had dreams of pursuing his art after retiring. Then in 1999 Dean painted his first picture of Pete the cat. He painted Pete blue, believing black cats were bad luck. Pete eventually took over Dean's paintings and after 11 years of painting Pete, it is a very good thing.
Julie Paschkis Speaking Tuesday morning, July 16
Julie Paschkis is the illustrator of several award-winning books, including Night Garden: Poems from the World of Dreams, which was named a New York Times Best Illustrated Book, Happy Adoption Day!, and Mrs. Chicken and the Hungry Crocodile. She lives in Seattle, Washington.
Sheila McGraw Speaking Tuesday afternoon, July 16
Sheila McGraw has written and/or illustrated thirteen children's picture and craft books, including many bestsellers. Her works include the family favorites Love You Forever, I Promise I Will Find You, and Where the Lost Things Go.
Michael Hall Speaking Wednesday morning, July 17
Michael Hall is the creator of the nationally best-selling picture book My Heart is Like a Zoo, as well as the acclaimed Perfect Square. He is the co-owner and principal designer at Hall Kelley, Inc. and lives with his family in Minnesota.
Ed Young Speaking Wednesday afternoon, July 17
Ed Young, a Caldecott Medalist (Lon Po Po- A Red Riding Hood Story from China)and two-time Caldecott Honor Book (Seven Blind Mice and The Emperor and the Kite) artist, has also been twice nominated for the Hans Christian Andersen Award. Born in Tientsin, China, and brought up in Shanghai, he now lives with his family in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York.
Tom Lichtenheld Speaking Thursday morning, July 18
Tom Lichtenheld is the illustrator of New York Times best-sellers Good night, Goodnight Construction Site and Steam Train, Dream Train (created with Sherri Duskey Rinker) as well as Duck! Rabbit! and Exclamation Mark (created with Amy Krouse Rosenthal). Sing, a song in pictures, features the beloved music and lyrics of Joe Raposo. He has also written and illustrated many popular titles, including What Are You So Grumpy About? and Bridget's Beret.
Sherri Duskey Rinker Speaking Thursday afternoon, July 18
Sherri Duskey Rinker lives in Chicago with her photographer husband and two energetic, inquisitive sons. She's constantly inspired-and often exhausted. She created Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site (illustrated by Tom Lichtenheld) in hopes of happier bedtimes and sweet dreams for all. Sherri and Tom collaborated together to create Steam Train, Dream Train, another New York Times Bestseller.
Roger Roth Speaking Friday morning, July 19
Roger Roth is the award-winning author and illustrator of The Sign Painter's Dream and Fishing for Methuselah. He has illustrated dozens of children's books, including The American Story: 100 True Tales from American History by Jennifer Armstrong and The Unsolved Mystery from History books by Jane Yolen and Heidi Elisabet Yolen Stemple. Star of the Week is the first of what he hopes will be many collaborations with his wife, Darlene.
Chris Raschka Speaking Friday afternoon, July 19
Chris Raschka is the illustrator of A Ball for Daisy and The Hello, Goodbye Window, which both were awarded the Caldecott Medal. He is also the illustrator of the Caldecott Honor Book, Yo! Yes?; Charlie Parker Played Be- Bop; Mysterious Thelonious; John Coltrane's Giant Steps; and Can't Sleep. He lives with his wife and son in New York City.

The 2013 Mazza Summer Conference registration fee entitles you to:
- Attend many pullout sessions
- Chances to win many door prizes
This year is our fifth year to include a Children’s Book Writing Strand. A special strand will permeate the conference for those interested in becoming a children’s book author/illustrator. This strand must be taken for the full five-day conference. If you chose this strand, you must attend all the pullout sessions for this strand and will not be able to attend any other pullouts.
Flexible Registration:
You may chose any or all days of the conference to attend. Check the artists for a complete schedule and chose which days you want to attend.
The fee is below:
All five days Only $225; savings of $100
Any four days Only $200; savings of $60
Any three days Only $170; savings of $25
Any two days Only $120; savings of $10
Any one day Only $75
Conference space available will accommodate 300 participants. Registration for the 2013 Mazza Summer Conference begins February 13, 2013 and closes July 7, 2013, or earlier, if maximum participation limit is reached. Please register early.
Classroom Credit Hours
Attend the Mazza Museum 2013 Summer Conference for graduate credit, undergraduate credit or just for fun!
The basic registration fee is waived for those participating in the conference for graduate or undergraduate credit.
Graduate Credit: 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 hours of graduate credit are available from The University of Findlay for conference participants at the cost of $515 per credit hour.
Undergraduate Credit: 1, 2 or 3 hours of undergraduate credit are available from The University of Findlay for conference participants at the cost of $659 per credit hour.
The basic registration fee of $225 is waived for those participating in the conference for graduate or undergraduate credit.
Those taking the conference for credit must attend and complete all requirements:
For 1 hour: must attend for two days and complete all syllabus requirements
For 2 hours: must attend for three days and complete all syllabus requirements
For 3-5 hours: must attend for five days and complete all syllabus requirements
NO REFUNDS AFTER July 7, 2013. There will be a $25.00 processing fee on all refunds. Refund checks will be issued after the conference concludes.
