Old Main Gallery
The Old Main Gallery is an exhibition space for the art work of students, faculty and visiting artists. Currently on display is a collection of photographs by Donna Smith, Director, UF Academic Support Center.
Of the exhibition titled, Finding Family: Discovering Italy, Donna Smith writes: The past eight years have been a wondrous journey to first find and then meet the Italian relatives of my grandfather, Epifanio. From discovering old photographs of Grandfather Epifanio uncovered after my father’s death to sitting in the living room of Epifanio’s childhood home in Lodrone, Italy, has been a life- changing experience for me. Not only did I find a warm and welcoming family, but I also found and fell in love with a beautiful country.
These pictures are a sample of the many that I took during visits in 2004 and 2006. My journey has taken me from Rome, north through hills of Tuscany, into the large, bustling cities of Florence, Milan, Siena, and Verona, and finally to the small village of Lodrone located in the “Valley of Churches” in northeastern Italy. I look forward to returning within the next couple of years. In the meantime, the photographs help keep alive the moments and the memories of finding family and discovering Italy.
A collection of related photographs by Donna Smith is on display in The 1124 Gallery located at 1124 N. Cory St. on the UF campus. The Old Main Gallery is located on the second floor of Old Main, 1000 N. Main St. on the UF campus.
