The University of Findlay Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter was honored to be the beneficiary of the 2008 Homecoming 5K Run. Habitat for Humanity campus chapters make up the collegiate level of Habitat for Humanity International, and thus share its mission of eliminating sub-standard housing and homelessness worldwide, by helping people with limited incomes obtain affordable housing. The University of Findlay Campus Chapter offers several educational events each year on campus to raise awareness of this important crisis. One of the most popular events, Box City, occurs during Act! Speak! Build! Week and involves students building shelters from cardboard boxes and spending the night in them! Other annual events include a Hunger Awareness Meal and co-sponsoring Cans Across America. Each March approximately 32 students, faculty, and staff members travel to another state to build Habitat homes over spring break. The UF Campus Chapter has also helped build several homes here in Findlay. Eventually, the UF Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter dreams of raising enough funds and gathering enough volunteers to sponsor its own home right here in Findlay/Hancock County! This will be through a partnership with the Findlay/Hancock County Habitat for Humanity Affiliate. Thank you for participating in the 5K and supporting this student organization!
A special thank you goes to our sponsors: BioLife Plasma Services and Findlay Optometry Clinic! Without their support this event would not be possible and we appreciate their commitment to our community!
