Current Projects

Academic Technology Services located at the  Teaching, Learning, and Technology Center (TLTC) is engaged in many exciting projects to assist The University of Findlay faculty in both teaching and research endeavors. We also provide technology training for UF staff through consultation sessions and workshops. Described briefly below are three major services/programs that were initiated during the past academic year and are targeted for further growth in the 2005-’06 Academic Year:

Online Course Certification Program

The Online Course Certification Program is an instructional development opportunity for all part-time and full-time faculty members either intending to teach or currently teaching synchronous and asynchronous online courses. The program began during the Spring Semester, 2005 and over 40 faculty members have already participated. Specific materials developed for the Certification Program are: the Login and Learn Course Sites, Guidelines for Teaching an Online Course (http://tltc.findlay.edu/onlinesupport/Guidelines/index.html), and the Online Certification Binder (articles/exercises/information used in the Certification Program).

Participants in the Online Certification Program produce a ‘Superior Online Course’ as a requirement for the completion of the certification process. They are then invited to present components of their online course at an ‘Informational Sharing Day’. At the beginning of the Fall Semester, 2005 the Sharing Day was integrated into the Fall Faculty Activities; 10 certification participants exhibited/explained various elements of their online course creation. The Online Certification Program ensures that The University of Findlay continues to offer superior quality online courses and programs.

Academic Program Partnerships (APPs)

The Academic Program Partnerships bring together all teaching members of a specific major/program to formulate innovative strategies addressing or actually remedying gaps or shortcomings in their learning environments. New strategies may include fresh pedagogical approaches, diverse assessment techniques, or inventive uses of educational technology tools that may enhance teaching and learning. Current APP Projects Listed are in Various Stages of Development/Implementation/Assessment:
  • College of Education - Use of Tablet PCs for assessment activities by Field Supervisors.
  • Wellness Program – Incorporation of the Polar TriFIT Assessment System into the Wellness Program (possible use by other COHP programs).
  • Physics/Astronomy/Education – Integration of new Star Projector/software into UF’s Newhard Planetarium (university/community/education group programs).
  • Criminal Justice – Utilization of crime scene software products and technology to assist with the development and teaching within the new Forensics Program.
  • Journalism – Updating software/computer equipment for School Newspaper (The Pulse), a significant component of the Journalism major.
  • Theatre – Provide technical resources needed to support an emerging movement of theatre, Multimedia Theatre.
  • Communications – Provision of software and equipment to allow for the development of mobile media post-production experiences for faculty and students.

The University of Findlay’s v4 Website Development/The One-Stop-Shop at the TLTC

ATS is collaborating with ITS and University Relations to assist with the completion of our new UF website. The v4 website is a ‘distributed’ system, providing faculty/staff with a higher level of input and control over their academic program and website pages than the current v3 site. The One-Stop-Shop was designed to train and support faculty/staff in the utilization of the tools needed to build v4 web pages (multimedia, content management technical skills, web writing). Through the new v4 website, the University will have the ability to maintain a current, constant, vital connection with many significant populations: alumni, visitors/prospective students, current students, employees, employers, internship/co-op partners, etc.
