On-Going Service Opportunities
These volunteer opportunities are highlights of ongoing service events. They require various amounts of commitment, from 1 day per week to 1 day per month. Please contact the Campus Compact Office if you are interested in these or other ongoing activities.
The Jacobs/Washington Community Task Force needs volunteers for a “Walking School Bus” program to escort groups of students home from school each day. Volunteers are needed to walk small groups along specific routes from 3:15 to 4:00 p.m. each day. The mission of our group is to provide a safe walking environment home from school in the Jacobs-Washington area.
ECLIPSe (Emerging Community Leaders Investing in Philanthropic Service) is looking for college students to join. ECLIPSe meets one Monday per month from 4-6 p.m. As a member of this organization, you will learn the “other side” of grant writing--deciding which projects/organizations should receive funding. Events for this year include a Million Penny Campaign and Findlay's first Dance Marathon fundraiser.
Many local agencies provide tutoring help to children after school, including Homework Central, Howard United Methodist Church's Homework Haven, the Salvation Army Learning Center in Findlay and North Baltimore, and the HOSTS and LAMP programs. If you enjoy teaching children how to learn or helping children to succeed, and have the 3:00-5:00 p.m. time slot available, please consider this volunteer opportunity.
Students, faculty, and staff may also choose to volunteer for other long-term service opportunities. Below are two lists that may be useful to you:
A list-serv is available that includes on-going service opportunities. If you are interested in being a recipient of the list-serv, email CampusCompact@findlay.edu. The list-serv is updated regularly and sent out via email twice a month.
