Internship and Cooperative
Education Programs assists in enabling students to acquire “hands on” work
experience directly related to their degree or career interest. Many opportunities are offered locally,
regionally and nationally. Students may
consider three work experience models:
·
Internship – A full-time or part-time project oriented
assignment that lasts for one semester and is usually for pay. Academic credit towards graduation may be
available.
·
Cooperative
Education – An assignment that
last for at least two semesters, often alternating semesters at work with
semesters at school. Competitive
salaries are awarded and academic credit may be available.
·
Degree
Related Work/Summer Experience –
An assignment for pay that is not available for academic credit and terms of
employment are between the employer and the student.
The University’s Internship
and Cooperative Education Programs (ICEP) introduces students to the
application phase, communicates with them while on assignment, and tries to
place students in increasingly demanding positions. Our ICEP staff assists students in resume
preparation, resume referrals to employers, and interviewing strategies. Internship/Co-op experience allows students
to gain practical knowledge that will complement classroom learning and
increase marketability for internship/co-op placement.
