Hosting A Safe Party
Being the "Host with the Most" means paying attention to everything from the menu to the details associated with how your guests will get home safely. Be sure you know how to host a safe party in order to protect you and your guests.

What Every Good Host Should Know:
  • Never serve alcohol to someone under the legal drinking age.
  • Have fun but not so much fun that you are unable to be a good host. You need to stay within your low risk limits in order to make sure your guests stay with in theirs and are safe.
  • Stop serving alcohol at least 90 minutes before the party comes to a close.
  • Provide plenty of food throughout the evening so as to prevent guests from drinking on an empty stomach.
  • Avoid too many salty snacks which can cause people to drink more.
  • Offer non-alcoholic beverages or mocktails for those who choose not to drink and those who are planning to be designated drivers.
  • If making an alcoholic punch, use a non carbonated base such as fruit juice.
  • Be prepared with numbers for a taxi or safe rides home for those guests who are unable to drive.
If A Guest Drinks Too Much
If one of your friends drinks too much at your party and you have to approach them, you may feel awkward or worry about losing a friend. The reality is that your actions to confront the situation could save your friend's life. Tell your friends that you care about them and you cannot let them drive home because you care. Offer to let them spend the night, call a cab or ask a sober guest to drive them home. Check out some additional strategies to keep everyone safe:

Engage them in conversation to slow down the drinking.

Offer high protein food.

Offer to get their next drink and make it a non alcoholic one.

Don't be afraid to insist that they stop drinking for a while.
