The UF counseling staff are licensed through The State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage & Family Therapy Board. We value our team relationship with the campus community and appreciate your concern for the welfare of our students. Making a referral to our office is an informal and easy process.

 When To Contact Counseling Services

• A student is depressed
• A student is unable to control emotions and/or behavior
• A student's weight and/or eating behavior is of concern
• A student's substance use is of concern
• A student appears to be in an abusive relationship
• A student is having difficulty grieving a loss
• Or whenever you are concerned about a student, even if you are unclear about what's going on with the student and/or what your specific concerns may be.

 Referral For A Non Urgent Situation

• Contact our administrative assistant, Jerri Niswander, at  X4526 and she will assist you with setting up an appointment for the student or speaking to one of the counselors for a consultation.
• Contact either counselor or Counseling Services with a direct e-mail at westrick@findlay.edu, gwilliams@findlay.edu or counselingservices@findlay.edu
• Utilize the Counseling Services website to submit a referral.
• If possible encourage students to make their own appointment. It is always best to suggest seeking help rather than telling or ordering them to do so in a non urgent situation.
• Let the students know that meeting with someone at Counseling Services is confidential and will not go on thier academic record. 

 Referral For An Urgent Situation

• Evaluate the safety for the student, yourself, and others who may be involved. If necessary call Safety & Security at X4799 for assistance. Do not hesitate to call immediately if you are feeling unsafe.
• Assist the student by dialing the phone and requesting an "emergency appointment" with Counseling Services.
• Walk the student over to Counseling Services. Our office is located at 307 Frazer Street.
• When calling or coming to the office for an emergency situation, please inform us regarding the urgency of the situation.

 Open Clinic Option 

• Counseling Services also offers Open Clinic times for students as well as faculty and staff to come in for brief appointments for consultation, introduction to counselors or learning how to get involved in the process of counseling. No appointments are necessary, but students will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis. Open clinic hours begin September 12th and are held every Friday morning from 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM at our office. 

As licensed therapists, we adhere to strict ethical guidelines regarding confidentiality. Please assure students their information will not be disclosed to any third party without written consent. Exceptions to this includes the presence of imminent danger to self or others, or knowledge of minor/elderly/MRDD abuse. Please also understand that confidentiality laws may limit what we are able to share with you once we have contact with the student.
