The record for the “Largest Food Drive by a Non-Charitable Organization (24 hrs.) – Multiple locations” is based on the total weight of non-perishable food items collected nationwide during a single 24 hour period.
1. Food items must be within their expiration dates and must not be in any condition that affects their suitability for consumption.
2. The food items must be presented to one or more charitable organizations recognized within the community. This does not have to occur within the allotted 24 hour period for the food drive and weigh-in, but should be done shortly thereafter.
3. The items may be collected at multiple locations during the attempt, but all items must end up in a single designated food collection area and be counted within the 24 hour period.
4. You may elect to use either a reliable scale to measure total donations or a log to itemize individual donations and tally up total weight according to their labels. Whichever method you choose, please use the Collection Log provided. Units using a scale will simply check the box at the top identifying them as such a location and fill in their total weight in the appropriate box at the bottom of the sheet. (It is not necessary to complete the entire collection log). Units tallying items must fill in all fields, numbering each page and keeping a running tally.
5. For those units keeping a tally, you do not need to log each individual item separately. Instead, separate all like food items before beginning your tally, then provide details on the food item, total number of cans/packages collected, weight per item, and total weight.
