Accommodations and Services
Advising accommodation – The director will sit down with students before students meet with their advisors and discuss preferred course loads, taking stepping-stone classes, breaks in between classes and evening verses daytime classes.
Adaptive testing – Enlargements, assistive technology, readers, scribes and quiet non-distracting testing areas are available to students with disabilities.
Advocates for students – The office acts as an advocate for students needs on campus related issues.
Amplification equipment – Personal FM systems for students with hearing impairments and speaker amplifications are available for students to loan per semester.
Assistive Technology – An assistive technology lab is available for students. The programs available are Co-writer. Write-Outloud, Read & Write Version, JAWS, WYNN, Open Book, Dragon Naturally Speaking, Zoom Text and Kurzweil.
Books on tape – Books on tape or e-texts can be ordered for students with visually impairments or learning disabilities.
Equipment - Tape recorders, magnification equipment, four track players, TTY's, FM amplification systems and an AlphaSmart are available for student's to borrow for the semester.Group and individual tutoring sessions – Subject specific tutoring is provided through the Academic Support Center with additional academic support for the individual student's needs provided by the staff of the Disability Service Office.
Housing modifications – Physical access is available in designated housing areas.
Letters of introduction to faculty members – Once a student has registered with the Office of Disability Services, faculty are sent a letter introducing the designated accommodations the student has requested for that course.
Note takers – Students with physical disabilities, visual impairments, deaf/hearing impaired, learning disabilities or ADD/ADHD may request a note taker to be hired through the Office of Disability Services to take notes for the student when attending classes.
Priority registration – Students with physical disabilities will receive priority registration to accommodate specific individual needs. Students will be notified if they meet the requirements for priority registration from the Director of Disability Services.Sign Language Interpreters - ASL/ESL interpreters are available as well as Typewell transcriptionist. Study Skills - Individual help with note taking, test taking, time management and study skills is available upon request.Writing Center - All students are welcome to seek assistance with their writing process (prewriting, drafting and revising) through the writing center located in the Academic Support Center.
