BP Foundation Operating ScholarshipBP America and the BP Foundation have established the BP Foundation Operating Scholarship at The University of Findlay to encourage and prepare young people for careers in the environmental, safety and occupational health field. BP is one of the world's leading international oil and gas companies, providing its customers with fuel for transportation, energy for heat and light, retail services and petrochemicals products for everyday items. This scholarship is awarded to students in their sophomore, junior or senior year of study who are enrolled in the environmental, safety and occupational health major or who have demonstrated an interest in an environmental career. Buckeye Western Horse Association ScholarshipIn conjunction with the 125th Endowed Funds Drive, the Buckeye Western Horse Association established this scholarship in furtherance of the equine industry. The scholarship is awarded first to students from Hancock County participating and involved in the UF western equestrian studies program; second to Hancock County students involved in equine 4-H or equine junior fair during high school; or to Hancock County students who participated in general junior fair during high school. This scholarship is to honor Mr. Busch’s daughter, Allyson, a 2009 graduate of the western equestrian program. Child Jr. Scholarship was established in memory of James L. Child Jr., who, as a trustee of the University from 1975-81, was instrumental in establishing Findlay’s western equestrian studies program. Allen Clopper ScholarshipThe Allen Clopper Scholarship, established by Allen ’36 and Betty (Caskey ’36) Clopper, is an endowed scholarship that provides assistance to incoming freshmen who rank in the upper quarter of their high school class. Students should be planning to major in one of the physical sciences and/or mathematics. Corner Memorial ScholarshipThis scholarship was established by Professor Corner’s wife and friends to honor his dedication to students and his 26 years of service to Findlay. Professor Corner was instrumental in creating the computer science major and establishing the basis for UF’s computer operations. The recipient may be a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior and shall have at least a 3.0 GPA.Fund Balance as of 6/30/11- $11,358Elsie Mae Daubert ’46 Memorial ScholarshipIn conjunction with the 125th Endowed Funds Drive, Richard and Eva Longsderff established the Elsie Mae Daubert ’46 Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund in memory of Eva’s sister, a retired educator. Ms. Daubert taught science and English a total of 39 years, six years in Haviland and Vanlue, Ohio, and for 33 years at Cedar Crest High School in Cornwall, Pa. She also was very active in the Churches of God, General Conference, for many years. Ms. Daubert was honored as a UF Distinguished Alumna in 1992. This scholarship shall be awarded to students majoring in biology with first preference going to Church of God members. Science Scholarship was established by Kent Davis and employees of Dow Chemical USA. in 1992 for juniors who have a declared major in the natural sciences. Recipients must be members of the Intercollegiate Dressage Association team at UF who demonstrate good sportsmanship, have strong leadership skills and work toward the betterment of the equine industry. Gunnett Sr. Memorial Scholarship was established by Mr. Gunnett’s family and his grandson, Craig E. Gunnett, a UF faculty member, in 1991. Mr. Gunnett spent his life working in heavy construction and for the railroad in Pennsylvania. Higgins scholarship was established by the friends and family of Donald C. Higgins and is awarded to a student majoring in environmental, safety and occupational health management. This scholarship is awarded to full-time students majoring in equestrian studies who are in their sophomore, junior or senior years of study, and have a 3.0 GPA or higher. Edward Lamb Foundation Equestrian Scholarship The Edward Lamb Foundation has established the Edward Lamb Foundation Equestrian Scholarship Endowment Fund in honor of Mr. Lamb’s granddaughter and her love for horses. This award is presented annually to an equestrian major in either the English or western program.Fund Balance as of 6/30/11 - $12,838P. Michael Lancaster ’83 ScholarshipThe P. Michael Lancaster ’83 Scholarship was established as a lasting tribute to Mr. Lancaster by his family, friends and colleagues. Having majored in equestrian studies and psychology, he was a 1983 graduate of UF. As a student leader, Mr. Lancaster served two years as president of the Student Government Association. He was also a head resident for two years and a member of Aristos Eklektos, the campus scholastic honorary society. From 1984 to his untimely death in the summer of 1988, Mr. Lancaster was employed by the University. Working in different positions, he continually showed dedication and commitment on the campus and at the Center for Equine and Pre-Veterinary Studies. It is most fitting that a scholarship in memory of Michael Lancaster be awarded annually to students recognized for outstanding achievement and potential in equestrian studies and equine management. Recipients should have earned a 3.0 GPA. or better and be involved as leaders in programs at the farm and on campus.Fund Balance as of 6/30/11 - $15,983Larry '63 and Ruth McDougle ScholarshipIn conjunction with the 125th Anniversary of The University of Findlay, Larry and Ruth McDougle established the Larry '63 and Ruth McDougle Scholarship Endowment Fund. Dr. and Mrs. McDougle provided this scholarship based on their belief that higher education, especially in the sciences and mathematics, represents the key to future economic development in this country and they want to assist students in having the same opportunity. Dr. McDougle received an outstanding education at The University of Findlay, and he went on to have a successful career in higher education as a faculty member and as president of Northwest State Community College. He was awarded an honorary doctorate in educational leadership by The University of Findlay in 1998 in recognition of his achievements. This scholarship is awarded to a full-time physics or mathematics major in any year of study with a 3.0 or better GPA.Fund Balance as of 6/30/11 - $14,781 Marjorie M. McGranahan-Mildred F. McGranahan-Shafer-Van Dorn-McGranahan ScholarshipThe Shafer-Van Dorn-McGranahan Scholarship was created in memory of 1941 graduate Mildred McGranahan’s maternal grandmother, Mary Shafer Van Dorn (1862-1928), and her mother, Fern Van Dorn McGranahan (1895-1962). Their lives spanned an era “progressing” from spinning and knitting homemade calicos to purchasing off-the-rack, ready-made clothing. Both spent their lives as dedicated farmers. The family farm was started in 1902. The stewardship of the farm’s lands is the source of this scholarship. It is the donor’s hope that it provides encouragement to those who receive the scholarship to be aware of mankind’s place in the ecosystem — from the most intimate of individual sociological commitments to the biological-ecological effects of the whole. It is hoped that the scholarship recipient, in turn, becomes a “steward of land” wherever and however he/she may fulfill his/her days. Upon Mildred’s passing in May 2010, her request to add her sister’s name to this fund was honored; and in April 2011, Mildred’s name was added to the fund at the request of Marjorie.Fund Balance as of 6/30/11 - $15,903 Meiring-Peck ScholarshipIn conjunction with the 125th Endowed Funds Drive, Mr. Wayne A. and Dr. Linda M. Peck established this scholarship in memory of both their fathers, Harold (Tom) Meiring and Everett C. Peck. Dr. Peck is the director of the animal science and pre-veterinary medicine program at The University of Findlay. Wayne is a financial adviser and owner of Successful Solutions. Recipients of this scholarship are animal science majors from Mercer or Williams County, Ohio, as first preference. Katharine Ballard Reed Memorial ScholarshipThe Katharine Ballard Reed Memorial Scholarship was established by Dr. Charles Reed and Dr. Joseph Reed in memory of their mother, Katharine Ballard Reed, a lifelong resident of Findlay and neighbor of the UF campus. The scholarship is awarded annually to students in the field of natural sciences with outstanding academic records entering their junior or senior year.Fund Balance as of 6/30/11 - $347,330 James M. Schmidt Math Scholarship (Operating)Mrs. Martha Schmidt established the James M. Schmidt Math Scholarship in memory of her husband. Mr. Schmidt served as an adjunct professor from September 1995 until he became full-time Aug. 1, 2000. He retired as an assistant professor on May 9, 2007. This scholarship will serve as an operating scholarship until such time as it is endowed. Recipients shall be full-time majoring in Mathematics and be in their junior or senior year of study. Glenn and Helen Stout ScholarshipDr. Glenn E. ’42 and Helen (Beery ’44) Stout established the Glenn and Helen Stout Scholarship to recognize students with a major in the natural sciences area. Preference is given to students interested in atmospheric and/or water sciences. ScholarshipThe management team of United Solutions Inc., who are also UF alumni, established the United Solutions Inc. Scholarship Endowment Fund at The University of Findlay in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the environmental program. Wallach Mathematics ScholarshipThis scholarship was established in loving memory of David by his family and friends to honor his commitment to teaching and to UF. It is the hope of family and friends that Dave's memory can continue to have a lasting impact on students in the mathematics program.David C. Wallach came to The University of Findlay in 1984 following a 20-year secondary education mathematics teaching career. During his 24-year career at UF, he was a leader in the area of mathematics. He served as Chair of the Division of Mathematics and Computer Science, was the co-originator of Mathematics Day, developed new courses and taught a wide variety of mathematics courses at UF. He was active professionally with the Mathematical Association of America and its Ohio Section, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics where he presented at many regional meetings. He was also proud of the many accomplishments of his advisees, whom he encouraged, mentored and maintained contact with long after graduation. Mr. Wilkinson helped found the western equestrian studies program at the University in 1976. He served as the program’s first supervisor of riding, a position held until 1984.
