Faculty Evaluations

Faculty members must complete the Faculty Evaluations Request form to receive their evaluation packets.

Faculty Evaluations Policy

The University of Findlay recognizes two purposes in evaluating classroom teaching:

1. Evaluating to improve teaching effectiveness

2. Evaluating for purposes of contract renewal, promotion and tenure.

Faculty are encouraged to regularly and systematically evaluate their classes to improve teaching effectiveness.

All new full-time and part-time faculty will be evaluated during their first three years of employment. The new full-time faculty may choose one of the following options:

1. All classes will be evaluated.

2. At least 50 % of the classes per semester plus peer evaluation (TRIO or mentor approach).

The college dean will determine in consultation with the faculty member which classes will be evaluated during the first three years of employment. All classes taught by a part-time faculty member will be evaluated.

All full-time and part-time faculty with more than three years of employment will be evaluated annually. Until a tenure decision is provided by the University, full-time faculty may choose one of the following options:

1. Two courses per semester will be evaluated

2. One course per semester plus peer evaluation (TRIO or mentor approach).

The college dean will determine in consultation with the faculty member which classes will be evaluated. All part-time faculty will have one class evaluated per semester and the college dean will determine in consultation with the faculty member which class will be evaluated.

Tenured faculty who intend to apply for promotion within any future three-year period may choose one of the following options:

1. Two courses per semester will be evaluated.

2. One course per semester plus peer evaluation (TRIO or mentor approach).

Tenured faculty with the rank of full professor, or who do not intend to apply for promotion during any future three-year period may choose one of the following options:

1. One course per semester will be evaluated.

2. Peer evaluation (TRIO or mentor approach).

The college dean will determine in consultation with the faculty member which class will be evaluated.

All full-time faculty teaching summer session or summer courses will not be evaluated. The college dean will request student evaluation of a course taught in the summer session by a part-time faculty member who teaches only in the summer session.
