A term used to refer to a new member of a fraternity or sorority. This is an individual who has signed a bid, but has not yet been initiated into the fraternity or sorority. During the new member period, the individual learns more about the fraternity or sorority (including local and national history, ideals, principals) and get to know the initiated members better.
The time when fraternities and sororities recruit new members. At UF, there are 2 weeks of recruitment in the beginning of both the fall and spring semesters.
