Advisor Responsibilities & Expectations
Responsibilities & Expectations of Advisors
10. Be a positive role model for the organization you advise. 9. Learn how to identify and tap into leadership potential among organizations’ membership.
8. Initiate communication with organization in order to develop a strong rapport with the officers and members. Please do not wait for them to call.
7. Be a resource person for leaders and members of the organization. You are not expected to know all the answers to questions, but are expected to help find the answers.
6. Take the time to ask student leaders 3 important questions: 1. How are things with classes going? 2. How is your leadership position going? 3. How are things with you? (i.e.: job, family, roommate, friends, etc.) And, do not accept “fine” as an answer to these questions.
5. Utilize the resources available, i.e.: printed resources, experience and wisdom of other advisors and university officials, etc.
4. Take advantage of “teachable moments”. Help leaders learn to take responsibility for their actions and learn from their mistakes.
3. Be proactive. Teach students how to see risks in their event planning and manage them. Make the leaders fill out facility permits and other paperwork—it will help them in later life! And SGA requires it!
2. Abide by all university policies and regulations as the advisor. Educate, educate and reeducate the organization on how to be successful as a group and still abide by policies.
1. Enjoy the privilege of being a part of students’ lives.
THANKS FOR MAKING A POSITIVE DIFFERENCE!
