What
is it?
The Oiler Experience is a one-hour course
that all first-time freshmen at The University of Findlay are required to take. It is an introduction to campus life and is
designed to provide information about campus resources and help students make a
successful transition from high school to college. All sections will be taught by personnel who
work in an area of Student Services (e.g. housing and residence life, career
services, counseling services, recreational services, etc.) and a peer mentor
who is a current UF student. The class will
meet for seventy-five minutes one time each week for the first twelve weeks of
the semester.
Who
has to take it?
ALL FIRST-TIME FRESHMEN are required
to sign up for The Oiler Experience, and must receive a grade of “S” (or
“Satisfactory”).
What
topics are covered?
Topics covered in The Oiler
Experience include campus navigation, finding information on the UF website,
campus resources, alcohol/drugs, safety, time management/study skills,
diversity, values/beliefs/spirituality, healthy relationships, career
exploration, academic advising, stress management/personal health and wellness,
leadership, money management/financial aid, transitional issues, current
events, and material from the first-year book.
What
if it puts me over 18 hours?
If registering for this course causes
a student to reach 19 hours (and therefore above full-time status and in
“overload”), the overload fee will be waived.
This adjustment will be made on a student’s account after the last day
to drop a class.
