Library Services

Interlibrary Loan & Request Forms

If you are a current UF student, faculty or staff member, you may use the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service provided by Shafer Library to make special requests for materials.

What May Be Requested

  • Articles that you cannot locate electronically or in print through Shafer Library.
  • Books and other items not owned by Shafer Library and not available through the OhioLINK Library Catalog.

Exception: Shafer Library will not request course textbooks for students.

Time it Takes for Materials to Arrive

Several factors determine how long materials may take to arrive at Shafer Library. Assuming that a loaning library can fill the request here are some general statements:

  • Articles may take a couple of days to up to one week depending upon how they are sent. Many libraries send articles electronically.
  • Books typically take more than one week to arrive at Shafer Library because they are sent by mail.

You will be notified by e-mail when the Library has received the book or article.

Costs
Shafer Library tries to find libraries that lend their materials free of charge. However, the request forms allow you to choose the amount you are willing to pay for your item.

Before Making an ILL Request

  1. If you are looking for an article in a particular journal, magazine or newspaper, did you check in Journal Finder to determine whether it is available full text?
  2. If you are looking for a book, did you check in the OhioLINK Library Catalog to determine whether it is available? If so, you may request the item directly through the OhioLINK catalog.
