The Mazza Medallion of Excellence for Artistic Diversity is designed to
honor a living artist (at the time of nomination) of children's books who has created a work of outstanding merit.  The key criteria for choosing a recipient for this award is the candidate's sensitivity to varying requirements of different stories.  Therefore, this award is given to an artist of children's books who has demonstrated his/her willingness to experiment with different styles of media and illustration.

To be considered for this award, the artist must illustrate books for children and/or young adults and be present to accept the medallion at a Mazza Enthusiast event.

If the artist is unable to be present for the award, it will be accepted on their behalf by a designated person.
