Choose Ohio First

Ohio First Choose Ohio First is a program created with the intention to advance the STEMM education fields:

  • Science

  • Technology

  • Engineering

  • Mathematics

  • Medicine

Ultimately, by supporting students in STEMM education fields, the state of Ohio hopes to create a more sophisticated workforce that will improve Ohio's economy. According to a recent report by the Center on Education and the Workforce, eight million new jobs will be available in STEMM-related fields by 2018.  In order to achieve these goals, the Choose Ohio First scholarship provides direct financial support to current and future students with STEMM education degrees.​

 

These majors are:

  • Biology

  • Education - Undergraduate

  • Education - Post Baccalaureate

  • Computer Science

  • Pharmacy


Biology

The University of Findlay has received Choose Ohio First (COF) scholarship funds for students in biology.  This program has been designated as a Program of Innovation by the State of Ohio.


Requirements

  • Be an Ohio resident

  • Gain acceptance into The University of Findlay and have a paid your enrollment deposit

  • Complete the FAFSA

  • Enrollment as a biology or pre-med major

  • Successful completion of high school courses in biology, chemistry, physics or computer science with a grade of "B" or higher.

  • Successful completion of high school math up through pre-calculus or the equivalent with grades of "B" or better in all math classes.

  • An overall cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 or higher (or the equivalent). 

  • ACT scores of 23 on each test in math and science reasoning or an SAT score of 560 or higher on Math. Or if you rank in the top 10% of your high school graduating class, your ACT/SAT scores will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

  • To be considered for yearly renewal of this scholarship on an annual basis, you must make reasonable progress towards a biology degree, and maintain a 3.25 GPA.

Computer Science

The University of Findlay has received Choose Ohio First (COF) scholarship funds for students in computer science. This program has been designated as a Program of Innovation by the State of Ohio.

 

Requirements

  • Be an Ohio resident and/or an Ohio high school graduate.

  • Gain acceptance into The University of Findlay and have a paid your enrollment deposit.

  • Complete the FAFSA.

  • Enrollment as a computer science major.

  • Successful completion of high school courses in science (biology, chemistry, and/or physics) or computer science with a grade of "B" or higher.

  • Successful completion of high school math up through pre-calculus or the equivalent with grades of "B" or better in all math classes.

  • An overall cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 or higher (or the equivalent).

  • ACT scores of 23 on each test in math and science reasoning or an SAT score of 560 or higher on Math. Or if you rank in the top 10% of your high school graduating class, your ACT/SAT scores will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Choose Ohio First scholarships of up to $2600 per semester are available to qualifying undergraduate education majors.

 

Requirements

  • Students must be majoring in Adolescent/Young Adult (AYA) Math, AYA Science, or Middle Childhood Education with math and science concentrations.

  • Students must be receiving at least $10,000 in UF merit scholarships.

  • Applicants must commit to participating in research and scholarship activities beyond the classroom requirements.

  • To be considered for renewal of this scholarship on an annual basis, recipients must maintain a GPA of 3.0.

Education - Post Baccalaureate

The University of Findlay has received Choose Ohio First (COF) scholarship funds for students in education. This program has been designated as a Program of Innovation by the State of Ohio. Choose Ohio First scholarships of up $288 per credit (maximum of 18 credits per year) are available to qualifying post-baccalaureate education students for required licensure courses.


Requirements

  • Students must be seeking licensure in Adolescent/Young Adult (AYA) Math, AYA Science, or Middle Childhood Education with math and science concentrations.

  • Recipients must maintain a GPA of 3.0 to be considered for renewal of the scholarship on an annual basis.

Pharmacy

The University of Findlay has received Choose Ohio First (COF) scholarship funds for students in pharmacy. This program has been designated as a Program of Innovation by the State of Ohio.


Requirements

  • Be an Ohio resident.

  • Be accepted for admission into the College of Pharmacy at UF.

  • Complete FAFSA.

  • Current enrollment in the Doctor of Pharmacy program or intention to enroll in the College of Pharmacy (for beginning student).

  • Successful completion of high school courses in biology, chemistry or physics with a grade of "B" or higher.

  • Successful completion of high school math up through pre-calculus or the equivalent with grades of "B" or better in all math classes.

  • Overall cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 or higher (or the equivalent).

  • ACT scores of 23 or higher on each sub test or an SAT score of 530 or higher on each sub test.

  • To be considered for renewal of this scholarship on an annual basis, you must make reasonable progress toward a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and maintain a 3.25 GPA.
