Header 1Tips and guidelines Post Column 2 Instagram provides a way to tell your story visually. It has a more genuine voice than some of the other social media platforms — sharing photos on Instagram doesn’t feel like an advertisement. It provides the ability to quickly and easily publish to multiple platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare and Tumblr. Instagram's most popular feature is the photo filter. There are 17 different filters that can be applied to images to achieve the appearance of professional editing. Some filters enhance the colors in a photo, while other dull the light to a soft glow for an aged, vintage appearance. Borders can also be applied to images within the filter palette. In addition to sharing images, you can share video through Instagram. Videos show up in your stream the same as photos, and they load as you go. You can shoot videos that are three seconds minimum, 15 seconds maximum and the format is square. Here are some things to keep in mind when using Instagram: Think square. Remember that Instagram posts square pictures, so frame your subject with that in mind. Experiment. Images and video are meant to be filtered in Instagram. Try it until you’re satisfied with the look. Talk about it. Captions tell the viewer why this image was worth sharing. This is also an opportunity to tag keywords. Name your spot. Geo-tag your image or video to show your location. Connect through comments. Like other social media platforms, you can mention other users by including the @username in your comment.
